Computer Upgrade from August 8-10th
will limit patient access
 
 
  • On Friday, August 8, we will see regularly scheduled patients from 8am-12pm. From 1pm - 9pm, we will see patients at our After Hours Care clinics located at North St. Paul and Inver Grove Heights.
  • After Hours Care will be open on August 9th and 10th as usual.  
  • Patient portal will also be down from August 8th -10th
  • Normal clinic hours will resume Monday, August 11th.

Skin Cancer Prevention

Although we get less sun the southern states, Minnesotans seem to make up for the long winter by being in the sun whenever possible! Keep yourself safe when you’re out in the sun. According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common form of cancer which accounts for half of all cancers.

What is a tan?

  •   A tan is a response to injury to your skin cells—injured skin cells make more pigment.
  •   It is a myth that getting a “base tan” at a tanning bed protects against sunburns—it may provide, at most, a SPF of 3.
  •   In the UV light side effects- we can make it stronger—like exposure to ultraviolet light from sun and tanning beds causes premature aging of skin, skin spots, wrinkles as well as all types of skin cancer. It increases the risk of ocular melanoma as well. Read More. 

What is Hospice and Palliative Care Medicine?

Hospice and palliative medicine is a formal sub-specialty of medicine in the United States that focuses on symptom management and is part of the training of all Family Physicians, focused on the relief of suffering and end-of-life care. 

In 2006, hospice and palliative medicine was officially recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties, and is co-sponsored by the American Board of Family Medicine.  Physicians who complete a residency in one of the co-sponsoring specialties are eligible for further training in an ACGME-approved Hospice and Palliative Medicine fellowship program, after which they must pass the official examination to be board-certified in the sub-specialty. Tuna in Pitas

Healthy for diabetics and all!
 
1 tablespoon finely chopped onion
2 tablespoons reduced-fat mayonnaise or salad dressing
½ teaspoon curry powder
1 can (3 oz) light tuna in water, drained (alternative: replace with ½ cup cooked chicken) 
2 lettuce leaves
1 whole wheat pita bread, cut into half to form 2 pockets
½ medium orange, peeled, broken into segments and cut into ½ inch pieces
 
Directions: In a small bowl, mix onion, celery, mayonnaise and curry powder. Mix well.  Place lettuce leaves in each pita bread half; fill with tuna mixture. Top with orange pieces.

Nutritional information:  1 serving has 190 calories(50 cal from fat); total fat 6gm(sat fat 1 gm and trans fat 0gms); cholesterol 15 mg; sodium 350mg; total carbs 19g(dietary fiber 3g, sugars 6g); protein 12 g; exchanges 1 starch, 1 ½ very lean meat, 1 fat.
